In the summer of 2000, on the campus of William Paterson University, a fellowship of men came together with a shared vision of integrity, not just for themselves but their community. This group of fifteen individuals, diverse in backgrounds but united in purpose, formed what would become known as Keep it Real (KIR). Graduates from 2004 to 2009 celebrated countless personal and collective milestones as they pursued their future endeavors.
Recognizing the importance of supporting their community, KIR became a nonprofit organization dedicated to various charitable causes. One of their most significant initiatives was the establishment of the Annual Scholarship Brunch. Proceeds from the Scholarship Brunch go towards the Jeffrey Payoute Scholarship Fund, named in honor of one of the founding members of KIR. Jeffrey Payoute exemplified the spirit of KIR, embodying integrity, leadership, and a commitment to service. The scholarship aimed to support William Paterson University students who mirror his qualities.
In addition to providing scholarships, the KIR Foundation is dedicated to mentoring young men and supporting them in achieving their career aspirations. The foundation also honors individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities. The Pioneer of the Year Award and the Jeffrey Payoute Impact Award are presented to esteemed members of society who exemplify exceptional leadership and service.
Through these initiatives, KIR continued to uphold its mission of promoting the educational advancement of all youth. Their journey from a small fellowship at William Paterson University to a thriving nonprofit organization is a testament to the power of unity, purpose, and a commitment to keeping it real.
