Anwar Joseph Golden was born into a family of five children to the late Windell Calendar and Linda Golden. Anwar's early years were marked by profound loss, as he became an orphan at the tender age of five when his mother, Linda Golden, passed away. His father, Windell Calendar, also passed away when Anwar was just 11 years old, leaving a lasting impact on his life. Despite these challenges, Anwar has consistently found strength in his faith and community.
A devoted Christian, Anwar holds his relationship with the Lord close to his heart, with his identity rooted deeply in his spiritual beliefs. He is a proud member of his faith and values the brotherhood he has cultivated with his Keep It Real brothers, who have been an essential support system throughout his life.
Anwar's journey in life has been shaped by the three core identities he holds most dear: first, as a Child of God; then, as a Black man; and third, as a father. These guiding principles continue to steer his actions and priorities.
Anwar is a proud first-generation college graduate. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in African and African-American Studies from William Paterson University in 2007. His passion for education did not stop there, as he later pursued and completed two Master’s Degrees: one in Elementary Education (2011) and another in Educational Leadership (2014) from Wilmington University. With a strong commitment to shaping young minds, Anwar spent seven years teaching Middle School Science, where he made a significant impact on the students he taught.
For the past eight years, Anwar has served as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, roles that reflect his dedication to fostering academic growth and physical well-being in his community. His leadership extends beyond his school as he has been an active member of the Penns Grove Regional Exchange Club for the past seven years, where he works to improve and strengthen his local community.
Anwar is also a loving father to his 10-year-old son, Anwar Golden Jr., who is a central part of his life and inspiration for all that he does. Through his work, faith, and relationships, Anwar continues to exemplify resilience, leadership, and love in every aspect of his life.
